Culture Night at Galway City Museum

The seventeenth edition of Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir will take place on Friday, 23 September 2022.  This initiative of the Arts Council is a national movement that celebrates and promotes culture, creativity and the arts.  Galway City Museum will remain open to the public until 8pm (last admission 7.45pm) on Culture Night.  Staff will offer free 30 minute guided tours of three of the key current exhibitions: Revolution in Galway, 1913–1923, Keepers of the Gael and MONUMENT.

Revolution in Galway, 1913-1923

Education & Outreach Officer, Brendan McGowan will give a guided tour of the Revolution in Galway, 1913–1923 exhibition and share some of the local stories behind the struggle for Irish independence.  This tour begins at 6pm.  Age 8+

 

Keepers of the Gael

Education & Exhibitions Assistant, Damien Donnellan will give a guided tour of the Keepers of the Gael exhibition, which explores Gaelic culture and society through the lens of the learned families of historians, lawyers, physicians, poets and musicians who served Gaelic chiefs and English lords in Ireland between 1200 and 1600 AD.  This tour begins at 6.30pm. Ages 8+

 

MONUMENT

Museum Director, Eithne Verling will give a guided tour of the MONUMENT exhibition, which – with a primary focus on the stone forts of Aran – investigates some of Europe’s most impressive stone monuments located on some of Europe’s smallest islands. This tour begins at 7pm.  Age 8+
