Victorian Post Box
c. 1870
This elegant hexagonal pillar box stood on the streets of Galway for more than 130 years. Inspired by an ancient Greek tower, it was designed by John W. Penfold and bears the royal cypher of Queen Victoria. Penfold post boxes are quite rare today. Of the 300 Penfolds manufactured between 1866 and 1879, less than half survive.
