Biodiversity at Merlin Park Woods (Outdoor)

Biodiversity at Merlin Park Woods

Over the last decade, wildlife photographer and local environmentalist, Colin Stanley has produced a large catalogue of wildlife photographs from around Galway City. A founding member of Friends of Merlin Woods, his photographs have featured in the Irish Wildlife Magazine, a Galway Butterfly Project species identification poster for the Heritage Council, and various wildlife publications.

Colin started Galway Butterfly Project in 2016 with Heritage Officer Dr Jim Higgins and is currently involved in biodiversity education in local schools with the Music in Nature program by Music Generation Galway City. Friends of Merlin Woods has developed workshops and events using the appreciation of nature to create a connection between all the communities of the city. They were previously recognised with the IPB Pride of Place award in partnership with the communities of Doughiska, Roscam and Ardaun, and won the Environmental Sustainability Award in the annual Mayor’s Awards.

This exhibition reflects Colin’s long-standing documentation of Galway’s biodiversity, featuring a rich collection of the flora and fauna of Merlin Park Woods.
