1916 Rising, War Of Independence and Civil War
Ireland has had a particularly turbulent history with its nearest neighbour, Britain. In 1913, Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, ruled from London. The following decade saw the 1916 Easter Rising, War of Independence (1919-1921), and Civil War, (1922-1923), resulting in twenty-six of the thirty two counties of Ireland becoming independent, known as the Irish Free State.
