Fr Michael Griffin

This is a collection of memorabilia which belonged to Fr Michael Griffin (1892-1920). Fr Griffin was killed in Galway in 1920 during the War of Independence. The collection includes personal effects such as his driving licence and grooming kit, clerical vestments, correspondence with family and his library of books, most of which are signed by him. The collection also includes an interesting series of telegrams dated to the days during his disappearance and the aftermath when his body was discovered, as many people offered condolences to the family. Fr Griffin’s vestments have undergone conservation, funded by the Decade of Centenaries through Galway City Council.
