Slate or siltstone complete Moynagh Point found in the River Corrib on the outskirts of Galway City, dating to the later Irish Mesolithic 5500-4500BC. Originally finely worked and polished, it had two pointed ends but has been heavily rolled, weathered and discoloured in the water. The Moynagh Point, of which only twenty have been identified in Ireland, were used as spear points. They are so called after their discovery during excavations of a Mesolithic occupation site at Moynagh Lough, Co. Meath.
