A poster from 1936 advertising the first annual dog show to be held in Eyre Square on 9 July. A report in the Connacht Tribune on 11 July, recorded a large attendance at the event. There were 653 entries to the event with 100 from the local area and many from Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales – the top entry was for Irish setters. The show was officially opened by Martin J. Cooke, Chairman of Galway Urban District Council and included St Joseph’s Industrial School Band, Salthill as part of the event.
