Flint Bann flake found near Belclare, Tuam, Co, Galway which dates to the Late Mesolithic period c.5500-3800 BC. These stone tools, with a leaf-shaped blade with a mid-rib and trimmed base, were named after the River Bann where they were first found in large quantities. The tool was possibly secured to some form of handle, perhaps in the form of a knife, to make a cutting or sawing tool.
