Many thanks to Marina Claudia Alessandra Postir from Dromineer on the shore of Lough Derg. Marine titled her work ‘ÁR an ARAN’. “My work speaks to the existential struggle between life and death harkening back to the fishermens struggle and my own battle with cancer. This work was created as a response to and a respite from cancer treatment; it was created over six months and is an exercise in meticulous patience and craft. All of my work is the slow application of effort to build a larger harmonious whole."

Thank you to Anthony Walsh from Knocknacarra who sent us a very creative video. "During the 2020 pandemic, I entertained myself by accepting the Getty Museum Challenge. At home, I recreated the famous Vincent Van Gogh self portrait with a bandaged ear. I chose this masterpiece because the artist had just returned from hospital and I stayed home to ensure I did not go to hospital"

Many thanks to Stephanie Coyne who shared her wonderful woodburning art with us via Instagram @stepcoyne
She says “this is a hobby I’ve wanted to do for years but up until May/June this year I hadn’t tried it and when I did, I loved it! It is my new found love, after losing a close friend back in May, our mentor in photography. My kids tell me I will need to build on if I keep going at this rate 😊”
Stephanie has many more of her pieces of art on her Instagram page @stepcoyne inspired from all over Galway.

Galway City Museum would love to continue to document the initiative & creativity shown by people in Galway during this ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. What have you been up to? Evenings can be especially long in this Covid era, how are you passing the time? Maybe you’re taking photos or keeping a journal of this ‘new norm’. Or have you been inspired to write poems, songs or stories? Maybe you’ve composed a new piece of music. Are you Ireland’s answer to Mary Berry by now or could you give Dermot Bannon a run for his money with your brilliant designs?
Thanks to all of you who have shared your fantastic creations with us so far, you can see them displayed on our website, galwaycitymuseum.ie – it is shaping up to be some exhibition when the time comes! Let’s keep it growing!! Send your photos, drawings or videos to museum@galwaycity.ie

Marta Dorigo Salamon and Rebecca Aileen (aged 8) from Coillte Mhuirlinne, Ballybane sent in their fabulous Covid Creativity.
"We wanted to do something to cheer up our neighbours and all the essential workers that came into the area, so we took it 'to the street'. Every week I wrote a different inspirational quote on the pavement in front of our flat and my daughter drew something to accompany it"

Thank you to Milos Kricka and Ines Kricka Perkovic from Tuam. They said "During the isolation we did a lot of creative things, and we are sharing some of them with you. Milos made a lovely wooden rose and a beautiful wooden table lamp, they are built from old wood found in the forest. I did some paintings. We hope you like them.

Many thanks to Sally McHugh from Corotin, Co.Galway for sending us a postcard! "I have been busy making art thanks to these free postcards from An Post! I've been experimenting with different art forms and then sending them to friends and family.
ART has been a wonderful de-stresser!
This card is a mixture of printing and collage, made from materials around the house - poster paints, rose foliage and newsprint"

Thank you to Carol Barrett from Moycullen who sent us some photographs of her beautiful baskets.
Here's what she had to say "I've been spending my time during covid lockdown foraging for natural materials around my local area past Moycullen and making hedgerow baskets.
I harvest all the materials in a sustainable way, never taking too much.
I've used willow bark, ivy, brambles, dandelion and plantain stems, broom, cat tail rush and common rush." Thank you to Jacqui Ryan from Killeenaran, Kilcolgan. "I have set up a temporary home-studio in a spare room in my home as I’ve had to close the doors on my ceramics studio in Ardrahan due to coronavirus.
Luckily my kiln is in a shed near my home so I can continue to make ceramics but my students are sadly missing out on their creative time in-studio and I’m missing teaching very much.
So I had an idea to leave sanitised blocks of clay in a box at our local pump so people in my locality could avail of this lovely material. I photocopied and laminated instructions on how to make a very ancient form of pottery called a pinch pot. I invited neighbours from within a 2 km radius to avail of the clay and instructions and to leave the finished pieces back in the box so I could fire them to the necessary 1060 decrees with glaze to make them into proper pottery pieces. We have a village What’s App group so the project was easy to share.
If you want a look at what I’m making myself take a look on my Instagram @Jaq_ryan or my Facebook page....I’m making tea strainers, soap dishes and oil burners. I’ll have another kiln full of work ready for photographing in a couple of weeks where I’ve used the foliage and grasses from local hedgerows to make patterns on the clay before forming into vessels. I rarely get the time to do this so it’s been a pleasure to go out and cut the ‘weeds’ to use on my ceramic pieces.
The first picture is of pots made by local families and also includes a cake plate and bird garden cane-toppers.
The second picture is more village creations. I delivered all of them back to their owners, leaving them on doorsteps and adhering to social distancing.

Thank you to Anthony Walsh from Knocknacarra for sharing his wonderful painting. Here's what he had to say: "This is my painting of my life whilst isolating at home during the Covid-19 virus.
As I could not go to school or have any playdates I had my pets for company.
Throughout the 2020 lockdown I wore a protective face mask.
As nobody said “howya” anymore, I painted “howya” on my mask!" Thank you to Karena Ryan a Textile Artist from Tuam, County Galway for sending in her brilliant creations.
Here's what she had to say: "In response to Covid-19 I began making surgical masks mid-March with hand stitched messages on them such as #stayhome #staysafe. I am also creating 50 + stitched portraits of Irish nurses, doctors, hospital porters in PPE onto repurposed nursing uniforms and tunics with the hope to exhibit them at some stage titled 'Heroes in Stitches'." Well done to Oisin and Naoise Flynn, ages 10 and 7 from Doughiska, Galway for making this amazing robot during the lockdown. Thanks for sharing guys! Here's what they had to say: "Introducing ‘GRETA LOCKDOWN’, our environmentally friendly robot. She is entirely made up of household waste packaging which was due for landfill until we saw the opportunity to up-cycle our waste into something fun and beautiful. After all who doesn’t want to live with a friendly personal robot. We have also been very busy building Code, Lego and Stop Motion Animations throughout the Lockdown." Rine Philibin from Headford has contributed two beautiful paintings.
1. Bog Cotten by Moonlight, original watercolour.
I painted this one day as I longed for the bog cotten which I see every year along the Curraghline and back in Maam, Connemara. It heralds the summer and reminds me of playing on the bog in Maam as my parents saved the turf. Each year as I drive from Headford to Galway, I watch out for the people on the bogs and recall the picnics I enjoyed as a child. Muddy wellies getting stuck in the water as I chased after butterflies, dragonflies and frogs.
2. 'Connemara Sunrise' original oil painting.
We've been having such fabulous sunsets and sunrises these weeks I had to paint them. I along with a lot of people in these worrying times seem to wake earlier and now that I am social distancing, enjoy welcoming the day with a cup of coffee in hand as I marvel at this beautiful world we inhabit. We share this glorious place with other creatures and the sun rises and sets each day, putting on the most beautiful show. Now, we have the time to savour it.
