ILLUSTRATED TALK: The Franciscans in the West

August 10, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm UTC+0

Founded by St Francis of Assisi (c. 1181–1226), the Franciscan order arrived in Ireland in the thirteenth century. Following an initial period of growth, a renewed phase of friary construction took place in the fifteenth century, with the support of the Gaelic and Gaelicised communities. Join Dr Yvonne McDermott as she discusses the Franciscans in medieval Connacht. Afterwards, visit the Keepers of the Gael exhibition.

As places are limited, advance booking is advised – call the museum on (091) 532460.
