Galway’s Digital Heritage

The opening in 1971 by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), then the world’s second largest computer company, of its first overseas manufacturing plant at Mervue could be viewed as the beginning of modern Galway. Join Brendan Smith, curator of the Computer and Communications Museum of Ireland at NUI Galway, as he looks at the city’s proud technology heritage whilst providing a fascinating insight into some of the more iconic IT equipment used and sometimes produced in Galway over the last five decades.
