Corrib Beo, in collaboration with Galway City Museum, are delighted to announce the details of the fourth talk in the 2026 Museum Talks Series.

Dr. Cilian Roden – a Founder of Lough Carra Catchment Association (LCAA) – and Arlene Monteith – Community Engagement & Heritage Consultant for LCAA – will give a comprehensive talk titled: The Lough Carra Catchment Association: A Story of Determination and Resilience, Wednesday, 29th April @ 1:00 pm at the Galway City Museum. Those interested in attending are advised to book in advance via Eventbrite.

Dr Roden is one of the founding members of the Lough Carra Catchment Association (LCCA). His talk will focus on the history of the LCCA, current priorities and an
overview of the Lough Carra LIFE Project.  Arlene is currently working with the Lough Carra Catchment Association to deliver the ‘Our Lake, Our Community: Strengthening Heritage Stewardship at Lough Carra’ Project. This project is funded by the Heritage Council’s Organisational Support Fund. Arlene’s talk will give an overview of this project and highlight some opportunities for people to get involved in this project in the year ahead.

Speaker Bio: Dr Cilian Roden is an Irish botanist and ecologist renowned for this expertise in aquatic plants and natural heritage. He has authored several publications including “The
Naturalist’s View: The Role of Natural History in Present-Day Ireland”, and has coauthored “A Rambler’s Guide & Map, Corrib Country: Natural Environment, Archaeology, History, Navigation Channel”. Dr Roden’s work has been instrumental in promoting environmental education and conservation in Ireland, and his dedication to preserving Ireland’s natural heritage continues to inspire and inform both the scientific community and the general public.

Arlene Monteith is a Community Engagement & Heritage Consultant. She has worked as a Learning and Outreach Officer for the Museum of East Dorset and also as Community Engagement Manager with the National Lottery Heritage Fund in the UK.
