Spandrel with Rose and Foliage

Late 1400s/Early 1500s window spandrel. The left panel is decorated with leaf-like motifs, while the right bears a rose with three concentric rows of petals. A small central dot shows that the flower was laid out with the help of a compass. The rose is one of the most common motifs found on Galway spandrels. Some roses may have had religious and heraldic significance, being associated with (some branches of) the Lynch family. Others, however, were purely decorative.
